How To Stop a Chimney/Chase Leak!

By: Jonathan Spradlin

Many homes built in Arkansas during the 70's and 80's have a substantial problem with water seeping in around the chimney area, which in turn causes substantial damage to the roofing system. Through my experience I have learned that the flashing isn't necessarily at fault. many homes built during this time period were not subject to any type of building code. Therefore there was one piece missing! The saddle or cricket as it is called here diverts water from behind the chimney/chase. If you are experiencing a failure around your chimney area a quick inspection will pinpoint the culprit. If your chimney doesn't have one it is fairly inexpensive to have one constructed and the chimney re-flashed. Thinking of doing some work on your roof subscribe to our feed.
